York House School, located in the heart of Vancouver, is one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. Founded in 1932 by seven progressive and insightful women, York House provides an outstanding education for approximately 650 girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.   

Position Summary

As a member of the administration team, the Assistant Director supports the Director of Senior School to ensure academic excellence and coordination of a dynamic, innovative, and rigorous curriculum for Grade 8 through 12. This individual will work closely with the academic leadership team to provide leadership and management of students and faculty in the Senior School so that the tone, environment and culture model the values and mission of York House School. This student-centered leader will work with all stakeholders to provide an inspiring and positive school environment that will empower our students to acquire the knowledge and character needed to become bold leaders and ethical global citizens. This position reports to the Director of Senior School.

Specific Responsibilities:

Administration and Operations

  • Support daily operations (including events & activities) of the Senior School 
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Senior School to plan and lead department head and staff meetings
  • Oversee student events and activities (ie. clubs, detention, dance duty, Pre-Grad)
  • Assist with and maintain student discipline in accordance with policy and philosophy of the school and ensure proper documentation
  • Assist in the Admissions process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of Senior School applicants for enrollment
  • Contributes to hiring, providing training, coaching, and performance management of Senior School Faculty
  • Conduct faculty evaluations and support Professional Growth and Development Plans to ensure continuous professional growth and excellence in teaching practices
  • Attend a variety of key school functions related to the Senior School 
  • Perform the role of Teacher Advisor
  • Responsible for teaching at the Senior School as needed

Professional Development Program 

  • Ensure continuous professional growth of faculty to support program excellence and innovation in teaching and learning
  • In coordination with academic directors, assist with the review of courses of study, report cards and final culminating assessments to ensure alignment with Ministry Expectations and the strategic priorities for teaching and learning
  • Collaborate with Academic Directors to coordinate,  lead and facilitate professional development for teachers

Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and instructional leadership with the implementation of the new BC Curriculum Level 8 - 12
  • Experience in coordinating and leading professional development with educators
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with and facilitating learning teams
  • Demonstrated applied learning from professional development related to how girls learn 
  • Demonstrated experience as a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic educator
  • Demonstrated leadership in supporting teachers in differentiating instructional and assessment practices.
  • Experience in leading and implementing inquiry and project based learning 
  • Demonstrated experience with using UBD as a curricular framework
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership and management
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment with demonstrated competence in communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all stakeholders (students, parents, staff, faculty)
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Bachelor of Education 
  • Master’s in Education is preferred
  • BC Teacher certification or equivalent
  • Demonstrated track record of management and leadership
  • 2+ years of experience as an Educational Leader
  • 5+ years of teaching experience
  • Proficiency using and integrating technology to enhance learning
